Select the correct size punch and corresponding die you need to complete you punching task.
Step 2 – Insert punch
Insert the correct sized punch into the jaws of the punching machine. (This may be the upper or lower jaw depending on make and model). Some punches are simply slotted into the jaws while others are screwed in.
Step 3 – Insert die
Insert the corresponding die into the opposite jaw. (This may be the upper or lower jaw depending on make and model). Again, some dies simply slot into the jaws while others have to be screwed in.
Step 4 – Set depth gauge
If your punching machine has a depth gauge, set it to the depth you require. To do this you will need to loosen the set screw, adjust the gauge, and then tighten the set screw.
Step 5 – Insert material
Insert your chosen sheet material between the jaws of your punching machine. The edge of the material should rest against the depth gauge.
Step 6 – Squeeze handles
Squeeze together the handles of your punching machine in a single, firm motion until the punch is forced through your sheet material.
Step 7 – Release handles
As you release the handles, a slug of waste material should fall out from the die cavity.
Step 8 – Remove material
Remove the sheet material from between the jaws of your punching machine.
Step 9 – Check hole
Once you have removed the material from the punches jaws, check that the hole is neat and tidy and in the correct position.
Step 10 – Repeat process
Repeat this process until you have all of the required holes punched in your material.
