A gasket is a steel, copper or aluminium sheet or ring that is used between two machine parts or around pipe joints in an engine to prevent the escape of a gas or fluid. | |||

A gasket scraper is used to remove the gasket residue before a new gasket is installed. Gasket residue needs to be removed so the new gasket can be placed onto the engine block smoothly with no bumps or gaps. | |||

Gasket residue can consist of pieces of old gasket, sealant, hardened oil or carbon deposits from engine parts. After a gasket is removed from an engine block, a gasket scraper is used to remove this residue. | |||
