The pattern of a chase wedge is available in varying widths, although this difference in size is insignificant.
Some workers like to use a chase wedge in a smaller size to ensure the even working of the lead  As long as you use the tool correctly, its size should not have an adverse effect on the application it is used for.

Try using a chase wedge of no more than 50mm (2 inches) in width for dressing thin sheets of flashing into place For example, use the smallest chase wedge for bossing and dressing lead sheets with a thickness of 1.80 mm (0.072 inches) or less.

This is to ensure the smooth and even working of the lead and to avoid cracking or fracturing thin pieces of flashing.

There are no hard and fast rules; it is entirely a personal choice.

The widths are usually:
1. 50mm (2 inches)

2. 60mm (2 1/2 inches)

3. 75mm (3 inches)

Some manufacturers make a chase wedge in one width only – others two or three widths.
